Tourism that works for everyone.

We recently concluded the Western Cape Community-Tourism Experience Master Class Programme, commissioned by the Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT).

Delivered across three regions—the West Coast, Overberg and Mossel Bay—the programme focused on developing and strengthening community-based tourism experiences through a combination of training and practical learning.

As part of the programme, participants had the opportunity to step into the role of tourists themselves by experiencing offerings within their own towns. The programme concluded with a product pitch competition, where a winner and the top five experiences were selected in each region. In total, 78 tourism professionals participated, representing 54 community-based experience products.

The level of creativity and entrepreneurial energy demonstrated throughout the programme confirms that Western Cape tourism is well-positioned to expand authentic community-based experiences.

We extend our sincere thanks to DEDAT for their vision and continued support of inclusive tourism development in the Western Cape. We also thank the district and local municipalities for enabling the programme, the local tourism organisations for supporting the process, and the entrepreneurs who inspired us with their innovative and engaging experiences.
Thank you for prioritising tourism that works for everyone!
