Developing Local Tourism Ambassadors

We recently concluded a Tourism Ambassador Programme presented across Bergrivier (Piketberg and Velddrif), and Drakenstein (Paarl and Wellington).

The programme focused on guiding participants to take on a proactive role in their local tourism environments, with three core objectives:

  • Deepening their understanding of tourism’s potential to drive employment, support business growth, and contribute to inclusive socio-economic development.
  • Building their skills and confidence to enhance visitor experiences, provide reliable information, and foster safe and welcoming environments.
  • Encouraging a commitment to responsible tourism practices that benefit both communities and visitors alike.

The programme aims to cultivate tourism ambassadors who can support and guide local tourism growth and inclusive development.
This initiative was made possible through the support of DEDAT. A big thank you to Nomthandazo Losi and Neo Mocumi at DEDAT, Nomonde Ndlangisa at Bergrivier Tourism, Cheryl Philips at Drakenstein Municipality, and the many other people who supported the programme and made it possible.
